Hellboy II The Golden Army

This is not your typical Hellboy comic. These are not your typical Hellboy characters. Mike Mignolia is inside the making of this movie. Guillermo Del Toro is the director of this movie. Selma Blair is in this movie. A hollow suit with a German accent is in this movie. Ron Perlman is in this movie. Doug Jones is in this movie. Luke Goss is in this movie. Anna Walton is in this Movie.

Sony stopped funding Revolution Pictures and the rights to the movie and the sequal were immediatly snapped up by Universal. Good thing too. With John Hurt as an original character, a studio needs to get his licks on camera before time has its way with an actor.

Plot synopsis is done fairly well at imdb, you should stop there if you want to know more than you should before going to the movie.
This is an entertainment on par with the first Hellboy movie in my opinion. It is not a continuation of one of the Dark Horse comics. It feels to me to be closer to an issue of DPRD, but with Hellboy involved throughout. We get introduced to a new character in the form of Johann Krause, aka the hollow mist filled suit with a German accent. We follow the antics of that elven cut up Prince Nuada as he resolves to cure the world of the human's failure to uphold an ancient pact. He enters the human world with his buddy Tink and kills a bunch of art auction goers dressed pretty spiffily by releasing a bunch of "Tooth Fairys." Enter an annoyed Liz Sherman, Hellboy, and Abe Sapiens. Hellboy uses the destruction of the human team members and the tooth fairies to get a little exposure to society. The rest of the movie is rather standard fare, with a tragic ending for Abe Sapiens and all those elven sympathizers. This was a good movie that I can recomend to anyone who likes the Dark Horse offerings of Mike Mignolia. Guillermo's take on this was no inspired rendering of any of the issues of Hellboy, but he is faithful to the genre and lets the characters emote as they will.
